It's getting hard to find good maternity health insurance in some parts of the US. The insurance companies just don't want to get stuck paying the bills, so they're dropping maternity plans, increasing the deductibles and the premiums, and just discouraging people from signing up for maternity health insurance.
Here's a good article I found at Annie75.com, "The Market for California Maternity Health Insurance Is Tough." Even California has the problem of only a few maternity plans being available.
Health Care Reform is planning to fix this problem by making every insurance plan offer maternity care, but I think that plan will backfire. If every plan has to cover maternity care, then everyone's premiums will have to go up in order to cover the expenses of maternity. Including people that aren't planning to have kids.
That doesn't sound right to me!
